Since we're the First and Only "Portable Pool Heating System", we can only explain the difference in the installing, maintaining and operating costs of a permanent pool heater as we've outlined below.

Solar Pool Heaters: Although the least costly to operate because it works from the suns heat, this system can be expensive to install not to mention the ongoing expense of maintaining. The average cost to install a new solar heating system is $3,900.00. After a couple of years, expect to spend on ongoing leak repairs and components which are not cheap. The solar pool heater is hard to regulate the amount heat you want for your pool water. You simple have to rely on the weather, (NOT GOOD).

Electric Pool Heat Pumps: This system runs on electric which continues to increase in price per Kilowatt hour. The average cost per kilowatt hour is $0.14569, and is increasing all the time.  This heat pump system is more designed to run continuously because you set the thermostat at the temperature you prefer the pool water to be and let it come on and go off all the time. With electric prices increasing all the time this will cost you a pretty penny to keep operating ongoing. If you decide this system is too expensive to operate and you decide to turn it off for a while, it will take much longer to heat the pool water back to your desired temperature not to mention how high your electric bill will be. Electric heat pumps for pools will take about 3 days to heat your pool water to a comfortable temperature to swim. Expect to pay for repairs and replacement parts on a yearly basis.
This system will cost about $28.00 per hour in electric cost and will take about 3 days to heat pool water to your desired temperature. This equates to a total for 3 days of heating of $840.00.

Gas Pool Heaters: Gas is the very best for pool heaters because you can raise the water temperature very quickly. Most gas pool heaters operate with propane gas also know as LP gas. Gas heaters are ideal for heating the pool when guests or children are visiting, or for a second home where the pool is not heated on a regular basis. When you have a gas pool heater installed the average cost will be $4,000.00 installed. But then you must choose a propane company to supply your propane tank, which is usually buried and you can either purchase the tank or lease the tank. Just know that propane gas for your pool heater will be about $4.00 per gallon delivered and that price will increase when petroleum prices rise.  Beware, when you lease the propane tank you will be stuck with that same company as long as your leasing their tank and they control the cost of propane gas you purchase from them. No other propane company will fill your tank unless you own the tank. Most people we've talked with are leasing their tank and it is buried in the yard somewhere. If you purchase your propane tank expect to pay $1,200 to $1,800 for the 250 gallon tank. Also expect many expensive repairs to a gas pool heater. They are a real pain to keep running and very expensive to have worked on. All pool heaters are installed outside and for that reason the rodents get into them and chew up the wiring and simply make a real mess.
This system will cost you about $42.00 per hour in propane gas cost and will take about 1 1/2 days to heat your pool water to your desired temperature. This equates to a total for 1 1/2 days of heating of $588.00.
